Stellantis plans to “improve efficiency” by laying off hundreds of workers at one of its biggest manufacturing plants
Everyone knows that Stellantis has been in struggle mode as it deals with low sales for its cars. This has led to several controversial decisions, including numerous layoffs and discussions of axing brands. Now, Stallantis has more layoffs planned as a way to streamline its production model. Naturally, this movie is only going to cause more backlash for the struggling automotive giant.
People aren’t buying Stellantis cars
The various brands that fall under Stellantis make some of the best new cars, but this hasn’t been enough to ease the automaker’s woes. Now, according to Mopar Insiders, more Stellantis layoffs are planned. This time, the employees at the Detroit Assembly Complex are the victims. Of course, there have been layoffs at other Stellantis plants in Detroit.
According to the report, Stallantis informed the United Auto Workers union that it would end the contracts for some temporary employees on October 1st. Additionally, some full-time workers will be laid off. This round of Stellantis layoffs is said to include 142 supplemental workers and about 69 full-time employees at the Jefferson location. Naturally, some of the most popular Stellantis cars come from this part of the complex, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Dodge Durango.
The Detroit Auto Complex also includes the Mack location. Stellantis plans to lay off 170 supplemental employees and 36 full-time workers here. This location manufactures the Jeep Grand Cherokee L and other popular Stellantis cars. As mentioned, the auto giant believes this move will make its workflow more efficient and hopefully help turn things around.
According to Stellantis, “We are continuing to take necessary actions to improve operations across all our facilities.”
