Stellantis isn’t ready to cut brands yet, but might in the future
Everyone knows this hasn’t been the best year for Stellantis and the cars that come from its brands. Sales are down, and there have been massive recalls. Additionally, there have been some pretty controversial layoffs. This all led to talk of axing underperforming brands from the Stellantis umbrella. Now, the CEO is clarifying his statements.
Stellantis cars are safe… for now
Recently, there has been a great deal of talk regarding which Stellantis brands and cars would be the first to go. Many thought Maserati would be sold due to its fall from grace. However, according to CarScoops, this is not the case, at least for now.
The latest is that the company will give its 14 brands a grace period. According to reports, they have a “10-year timeframe to build a profitable and sustainable business.” Because of this grace period, Stellantis has no immediate plans to sell off or discontinue any of its brands.
Besides the CEO’s previous statements about cutting brands, this has been in the news because there was an offer on the table. The grandson of Walter P. Chrysler proposed buying Dodge and Chrysler because he wanted to save the powerhouse companies. Naturally, this isn’t being considered. Notably, Dodge is still one of the biggest brands under the Stellantis umbrella.
It seems Stellantis is putting a great deal of hope into the upcoming Dodge cars to turn a profit. Notably, the Dodge Charger EV is coming soon, but there hasn’t been a ton of interest in the vehicle. Dodge also makes the Hornet, which is one of the worst-selling vehicles in its class. Still, there is always a chance things could turn around in ten years.
