There are class action lawsuits all the time in the car world. Recently, Subaru settled a class action lawsuit over faulty fuel pumps that were used in some of its vehicles. However, while the lawsuit made things right for some owners, many are pointing out how the lawyers involved came out on top much more than the people who were impacted by the Subaru situation.

Subaru is reimbursing owners over faulty fuel pumps after settling the class action lawsuit

Subaru recently settled the class action lawsuit over faulty fuel pumps. For context, Subaru used fuel pumps from a company called Denso. However, this company recalled fuel pumps that the automaker had used in several of its 2017 to 2020 model vehicles. According to Car Scoops, Subaru is giving eleven plaintiffs $3,750 each, and the additional 16 will get $2,500 each. This means the plaintiffs in the class action suit are getting $81,250.

However, it’s the lawyers in this class action lawsuit who are walking away with the gold mine. The outlet says they’re getting a combined $15.5 million for representing the plaintiffs. It’s this disparity in reimbursement has many saying people should pursue legal action directly in cases like this instead of opting in for a class action suit.

Besides the payday from the class action lawsuit, Subaru is taking further actions to make things right for drivers impacted by the faulty fuel pumps. The company is extending the fuel pump warranty to 15 years from the initial service date. Regarding the vehicles, the Subaru Legacy, Outback, Forester, Ascent, BRZ, and WRX models from 2017 to 2020 are included.

It’s also important to highlight why the recall happened in the first place. Unfortunately, an impeller in these fuel pumps was prone to cracking. This would cause it to absorb fuel. Naturally, this could turn into a massive safety issue.
