Toyota is reportedly working on the future of 2.0-liter engines
Toyota makes some of the best engines on the market. Not only do they help make Toyota vehicles reliable, but the automaker is also renowned for producing some real powerhouses regarding performance. Now, in addition to having some of the best new cars planned for the near future, Toyota is reportedly working on what could be the most powerful 2.0-liter engine. Naturally, this would be a four-cylinder engine.
This could be one of Toyota’s best engines
As mentioned, car enthusiasts and general buyers hold Toyota engines in high regard. However, in order to hold on to that standing, it’s important for the automaker to embrace innovation. Now, it’s doing just that as reports have surfaced that Toyota is building what could be the most powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine ever. If true, this would put the legendary automaker ahead of Mercedes-AMG.
Toyota is developing its new engines in association with Subaru and Mazda. According to Auto Evolution, the entry-level version of the four-cylinder engine could have a maximum output of 296 horsepower. If the reports are true, one of the Toyota engines would make about 395 horsepower. Though the first two are solid, the top-of-the-line powerhouse might have a maximum output of 592 horsepower.
Despite being so powerful, this new edition of Toyota’s engine lineup would be able to meet “strict emission regulations.” It’s also important to note that the automaker is working on a new 1.5-liter engine. Toyota already makes some of the best new cars, but these new engines could really set the tone for the next generation of performance. It’s expected that the 2.0-liter would power the MR2 and the Celica.
