Toyota just saw its fourth month of decline with most of its cars down double digits
Ask almost anyone what automaker makes the best new cars, and they’ll probably say Toyota. The automotive giant has maintained its reputation for reliability for decades now. However, despite still being the biggest seller in the US, the automaker is experiencing a bit of a decline. As of September, Toyota sales were down for the fourth straight month.
Toyota sales have been down for a while
There’s no question that Toyota has made some of the best new cars for several decades. Buyers know many of its vehicles for going the distance and having some of the lowest repair costs on the market. However, this degree of buyer trust isn’t translating into sales as much as it once did. According to CarScoops, Toyota sales fell about 21 percent in September despite being up six percent year-to-date. As mentioned, this is the fourth straight month of decline for the company.
Regarding Toyota sales, most of the automaker’s beloved nameplates are down by double digits. Trucks and SUVs had it the worst. The ever-popular RAV4 was down by 18 percent, the Highlander fell by 46 percent, and the 4Runner saw 53 percent fewer deliveries. The iconic Sequoia eroded 13 percent of its sales, and the Tacoma fell by 12 percent.
Toyota also saw sales decrease for most of its cars. The Corolla was 31 percent less popular, and the failed Toyota Mira lost 77 percent of its marginal popularity, selling only 30 units in September. Notably, the Toyota Crown also saw a decrease of about 66 percent. However, the Camry held firm. Additionally, both the GR Supra and the Prius saw sales increases.
Of course, it’s anyone’s guess why Toyota sales are down. However, many would agree that most automakers are seeing declines thanks to higher prices.
