South Carolina police arrested two men for trafficking after a traffic stop uncovered almost 300 pounds of narcotics
It’s pretty standard for police officers to pull people over for traffic violations. However, it’s less likely that a traffic stop will lead to multiple arrests for the possession of narcotics. Still, this happened recently when the police pulled over two men from New York and found hundreds of pounds of drugs, naturally leading to their arrests. Here’s what happened.
This traffic stop ended with a drug bust
Drivers may be pulled over for a traffic stop for several reasons. It could be due to an issue with the vehicle, a moving violation, or almost anything else. According to News13, police officers in Florence, South Carolina, were on patrol when they noticed a vehicle speeding on Interstate 95 on October 7th.
Naturally, the police pursued the vehicle with the initial intent of citing the driver for speeding. The driver stopped after noticing the red and blue lights. Kevin Li, 25, is said to have been driving, and Kang Quan Huang, 17, was the passenger.
However, things took a turn during the traffic stop, and the police ended up finding and seizing 250 pounds of marijuana. Reports say that this volume of narcotics is worth $500,000 on the street. Because of the volume of drugs they were carrying, both men were charged with trafficking. The police officers took the men to Florence County Detention Center, where they are awaiting a bond hearing.
Of course, marijuana is not legal in South Carolina. Additionally, it’s unclear if the traffic stop and subsequent findings will lead to other charges for the two men.
