California man is facing trafficking charges after police uncover 155 pounds of drugs during a traffic stop
Police officers conduct several traffic stops on a daily basis. However, they don’t often lead to drivers facing charges of drug trafficking. Still, this happened in North Carolina recently when the police pulled over one man and uncovered almost 200 pounds of drugs. Of course, the police used the help of a drug sniffer dog to find the drugs in the vehicle.
Drug sniffer dogs can be helpful during traffic stops
Drivers get pulled over by the police for traffic stops for various reasons. According to WPDE, law enforcement officers stopped Yongis Wang in Scottland County for speeding. However, things perhaps seemed a bit off, and the police on the scene called in an officer from the local sheriff’s office. From here, they employed the help of a sniffer dog, which is when they had reason to search for substances and other illegal items.
As is the case with some traffic stops, the police officers then found marijuana. However, they didn’t only locate a small amount. Instead, they uncovered 155 pounds of the drug, which says he was trafficking the substance. According to reports, this amount of the drug is worth about $177,000 on the street. Now, he’s facing multiple charges. Yongis, who is 49, is being charged with trafficking in marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, and conspiracy to sell marijuana.
After the traffic stop, the police officers took the man to the Scotland County Detention Center. He is currently being held on a $500,000 bond. Though the police pulled him over in North Carolina, the man is from California. Of course, marijuana is illegal in North Carolina.
