The Ford Focus is one of the most popular used cars for buyers. This is especially the case for the later models. However, those looking for more power usually go for the Focus ST, as it has performance enhancements. However, not all models are great. This is true for models like the 2012 and 2014 Ford Focus ST. Otherwise, this is one of the top sedans.

Here’s what makes them so bad.

The used 2014 Ford Focus ST isn’t perfect

The 2014 Ford Focus ST is one of the worst used models of the vehicle. It has a host of issues, some minor but others pretty significant. In particular, the 2014 Focus ST suffers from various transmission issues. In many cases, owners have needed to have the transmission replaced or rebuilt. As everyone knows, both of these fixes are costly.

The symptoms are the usual suspects: shuddering, jerking, and various other performance issues. The 2014 Ford Focus ST is also prone to various leaks that make ownership a bit stressful. There are also engine problems, such as stalling and shutting off while driving. Back to leaks, there are also reports of problems with the oil.

The 2012 Focus is among the worst used models

Most people won’t be looking for a used Ford Focus ST from 2012. However, some might consider it, which could be a mistake. In fact, many call the 2012 Ford Focus and the ST trim the worst model from the lineup. Sadly, this model has over 5,000 complaints on CarComplaints. The most widespread problem is power steering failure, which can be a massive safety issue. This is also dangerous as it could occur at any time.

There are also issues with the doors on this used Focus ST. One of the most concerning is that there are instances of the latches failing and the doors swinging open while driving. Of course, this can also be an issue for other drivers on the road.

Other problematic models of the Focus come from 2013 and 2015.

Many used Ford Focus models can be solid options for buyers as they are among the top sedans. The final edition came in 2018, and the last few are considered to be high-quality vehicles. However, buyers should always thoroughly investigate any car they decide to buy.
